Western Europe’s tallest building has played host to a Muslim Aid iftar which raised tens of thousands for victims of the war in Yemen.
It was the third year the event had been held, in aid of our ‘Give Life to Yemen’ Appeal and brought together a hundred guests to enjoy fine food in the exquisite Shangri-La Hotel, and stunning sunset views over the city skyline.
World renowned Bosnian-American Qari, Instagram star and former refugee Fatih Seferagic, gave a moving Qu’ran recitation while Zaid Shanti recited the call to prayer. The event was hosted by Rahim Jung and saw a keynote speech by Muslim Aid trustee Aaqil Ahmed, the former head of religion and ethics at the BBC and Channel 4.
The Yemen conflict has to date claimed 9,000 lives and injured 50,000. Millions are at risk of starvation, disease and violence. Muslim Aid, is working to deliver food, clean water, healthcare, and other essentials, and the funds raised at the Shard will be of invaluable help.
Jehangir Malik, Muslim Aid’s chief executive, said: “We are so grateful for all the support shown by those who came to the event and dug deeply to support people in desperate need. We hope that our guests had an evening to remember and look forward to many more events like this in the future.”
