The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in the Banadir region of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, launched yesterday a project to support food security in the Federal Republic of Somalia, to secure 2,838 tons of food baskets, each weighing 67 kilograms, to be distributed to 254,184 individuals affected by the drought there.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Mahdi Mohamed Guled, Chairman of the Drought Relief Committee, the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Somalia Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Mawlid, His Excellency the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Somali government, Khadija Mohamed Diriyah, and the Branch Director of the King Salman Center for Relief in Africa. Yusuf bin Bakhit Rahma, and a number of Somali government officials and representatives of international and international humanitarian organizations and civil society organizations.
Somali Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Guled thanked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the King Salman Relief Center for its continuous assistance to the needy in his country and extending a helping hand to them in various times and adversities, praising the center’s support for the Somali economy by securing foodstuffs from the local market instead of importing them from abroad.
For his part, the Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Somalia, Ahmed Al-Mawlid, explained that the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia believes in the humanitarian, moral and religious duty towards the brotherly Somali people, and in implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Highness the Crown Prince – may God protect them – the Kingdom has taken the initiative to present An urgent humanitarian and relief aid package for the Somali people to contribute to alleviating the drought crisis, in addition to implementing a number of development projects in the health, educational and social fields during the coming period, God willing.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Somali government, Khadija Diriyah, stated that we are launching today a project to support food security in the Republic of Somalia to help families affected by drought in coordination with the federal states. May God preserve them and the King Salman Relief Center for their generous humanitarian support to their brothers in Somalia.
This comes within the framework of the humanitarian aid provided by the Kingdom, represented by the Center, to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the effects of the drought that hit some provinces and regions in Somalia
