Eid-ul FITR Food Pack Distribution

Sierra Leone remains among the world’s poorest countries. A country suffering from widespread poverty and in much need of immediate international aid and support.

More than half of the population are living in deprivation, surviving off only £1.10 a day.

Many newly converted Muslims in the nation lack basic necessities and material support. This is especially true for Ramadan, where food price inflation is significantly higher – with prices rising as demand increases. This means many are likely to go without essentials supplies at the joyous time of Eid and beyond.

AKF want the people of Sierra Leone, at a minimum, to be able to access similar opportunities to other Muslims around the world, during the blessed month of Ramadan and ensure they have an enjoyable Eid day.

We achieved this by providing sustenance during this period, and for a month beyond Ramadan, through the distribution of food packs.

What We’ve Done

Over the Eid weekend, AKF distributed 400 food packs to vulnerable families in key areas across Sierra Leone, including Freetown, Koya, Lokomasama, Marampa Village and Mile 91.

Working with our partners Ihsan Foundation, our teams assisted 2800 people in total.

A single food pack covers the needs of a family of 7 and will last up to a month. A food pack includes essentials such as rice, vegetable oil, tomato paste and onions.
