Qatar Charity (QC) is currently supporting the treatment of patients with mycetoma in El Gezira state of Sudan, in cooperation with the Mycetoma Research Center (MRC).
This comes as part of Qatar Charity’s qualitative humanitarian and health interventions to help the most vulnerable people in the country.
The MRC, which works under the umbrella of the University of Khartoum, sent a medical and health convoy to El Manaqil, a city in El Gezira state, where 50 surgeries were performed at Al-Managil Hospital, while 100 critical cases of mycetoma were transferred to Soba University Hospital in Khartoum to conduct surgeries, with the support of Qatar Charity.
Mr. Ahmed Hassan Fahal, Professor of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum, and Director of the Mycetoma Research Center, praised Qatar Charity’s support for the mycetoma treatment efforts. He said that Qatar Charity has been participating in the implementation of such projects, in cooperation with reputable and capable organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) and other national and international organizations.
Professor Fahel noted that the concentration of mycetoma disease in El Gezira state prompted them to choose Al-Manaqil, where patients have been suffering for many years from infections and poor living and health conditions.
He explained that the convoy included 27 surgeons, radiologists, anesthesiologists, and administrative staff.
The director of Qatar Charity’s Sudan office Mr. Hassan Odeh said that Qatar Charity, during over a quarter of a century of its work in Sudan, has implemented more than 2000 projects in various sectors, including health sector.
He added that several convoys, sanitation campaigns, hospitals, and specialized health and medical centers have been implemented, noting the opening of the dialysis center last year, which is the largest of its kind in Bashair Hospital.
Odeh explained that Qatar Charity’s support for the Mycetoma Research Center to treat patients, advance training and raise disease awareness comes as a continuation of its humanitarian and health efforts in Sudan.
Mr. Hafez Abdullah Al-Jak, Executive Director of Al-Managil Locality, praised Qatar Charity for providing equipment, devices and medicines.
Professor Abdel Nasser Mohamed Ahmed, Director of Al-Manaqil University, lauded the impact of Qatar Charity’s support on patients and health in the region.
Many patients with mycetoma in Al-Manaqil thanked Qatar Charity for the support that enabled them to receive the necessary treatment.
