Last September, the Foundation announced the start of implementing a major humanitarian project in Afghanistan, which it called the “Food Immunization” project, which will benefit about 15 million people, representing about 50 percent of the Afghan people , and is the first of its kind in the Middle East based on the idea of ”prevention before treatment,” meaning Addressing the causes of poverty and disease that afflict about 77 percent of the Afghan people . The Foundation explained that after a careful study of the general nutritional situation in Afghanistan, it was found that two-thirds of children suffer from malnutrition, and that 30 percent of the country’s population does not have access to healthy and proper food, and 77 percent of the population of remote areas suffer from food shortages, in addition to that 57 percent of the population. In general, they do not have access to clean and healthy drinking water, and this has led to Afghanistan becoming third internationally in child mortality and second in maternal mortality rate. Therefore, the Foundation decided to enter into a strategic partnership with Jane International in a four-year project aimed at providing healthy fortified food. It contains the necessary nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, salts and iron, and covers 15 million people, half of the country’s population.
