Each Ramadan, Islamic Relief staff and volunteers around the world distribute food parcels to those in need. This year, when many families are struggling with rising food prices, our Ramadan parcels help to ease their burden during the holy month.

Starting this week, we’ll be sharing photos from our offices around the world, showing how Islamic Relief supports communities during Ramadan.

Malawi

As part of preparations for Ramadan 2023, our team in Malawi went to inspect food packaging at a supplier warehouse in the city of Blantyre.

This year, more than 2,000 families in Malawi will receive food parcels containing rice, beans, maize flour, sugar and cooking oil.

On top of the food parcels, over 750 families will receive a cash voucher they can use to purchase food items of their choice.

Sri Lanka

Food distributions have begun on the island of Sri Lanka, where Islamic Relief is providing food to vulnerable families in 2 northern districts this Ramadan.

Local authorities and community leaders are facilitating the process by helping us to identify and select recipients.

Families will receive parcels containing rice, sugar, cooking oil, dhal, and dates to break their fast.

Jordan

Preparations for the food distribution kicked off in Jordan last week, where staff checked parcels that will be distributed to refugees and local families in need.

Food distributions this year will take place in Amman, Zarqa, Irbid, Ramtha, Al-Karak, Jerash, Balqa and Mafraq.

The parcels include 21 items this year. Along with basic staples, ingredients widely used in local cuisine are included such as date syrup, bulgar wheat and tahini.
