Syria Emergency Appeal

Twelve years into Syria’s devastating civil war, the country is tattered and deeply divided, facing massive economic hardships, limited political progress and the world’s largest refugee displacement crisis, 70 per cent of the population is in need of humanitarian aid. The economy is crippled by years of all-out war, resulting in 90% of Syrians living under the poverty line. A generation of children are growing up knowing nothing but war. Unemployment is above 50%. The price of bread has doubled in a country where 80% of people live on just £1 per day. One person in every two goes to bed hungry each night.

More than 13 million people are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. Homes and schools have been destroyed, neighbourhoods lack clean running water and sanitation, and people lack the means of making a living to feed their families. The conflict continues to drive the largest refugee crisis in the world. In Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon, we are helping more than 1.5 million people with life-saving clean water, sanitation, and vital food aid, as well as helping refugees make a living and protecting them from violence. Donate to our Syria Emergency Appeal and help us saves lives.

Syria Emergency Appeal: Earthquake

After 12 years of civil war, the last thing Syrians needed was an earthquake. On February 6th 2023, survivors already exhausted and vulnerable from the war were dealt another blow when huge earthquakes rocked the region. In the space of a single day, without any warning, thousands of Syrians once again found themselves homeless. Civilian aid groups say 250,000 people were newly displaced by the earthquakes, and they are still stuck in more than 1,800 makeshift camps and shelters in the northern provinces of Idlib and Aleppo. The earthquakes claimed some 50,000 lives in Turkey and at least 6,000 more in Syria. But in Syria the temblors compounded what was already a miserable existence for hundreds of thousands of people, many of them now stuck in the frigid displacement camps.
